Pebble quilting …

It rocks!

Sorry I couldn’t help myself ;). But really, I think it’s my new favorite way to quilt. I’ve only tried it on two projects, but I’m hooked and making a list of more ‘pebble’ projects.

My first try was on a Spring Table Runner (using my “Modern Table Runner” tutorial … found in my sidebar). I typically free motion quilt these, but decided to try out the pebble quilting … a look I loved, but was afraid of messing up. I figured this was a small project, originally intended for me … so not too much to loose.

Good thing it was a winner :).

Seriously, this is my favorite table runner thus far … one because of the color palette (remember this flickr photo that caused me to purchase fabric in the same colors) and two because of the pebble quilting. But I knew someone who would love it more and to whom it would make their sad heart a little happier, so I sent it on.

And a closer look ….

I was also working on a set of custom pillow covers ordered up (many, many, many months ago) by my best friend. She pretty much left the designs and fabrics up to me with just a few pointers on colors.

I knew she really liked this pillow pattern, so I made that one first (shown above in back). Then I used this bookmarked tutorial (shown above in front) as the inspiration for the second pillow. The third pillow (shown above in the middle) was a comedy of errors as her measurements (sent via e-mail) were missing one critical number. So instead of 16 1/2 x 16 1/2 it turned out 6 1/2 x 16 1/2. By the time I figured it out, it was made, so I just went ahead and stuffed it :).

I tried funky line quilting (that’s probably not the official term, but it should be) on the smaller pillow.

And detail of more of the pebble quilting …

And here they are ‘in real life’ in their home sweet home …

I think pebble quilting a quilt would be quite (Hey that’s a lot of q words. Note to self for next time I play Scrabble.) the undertaking as this uses A LOT of thread, but the look might just be worth it. Little pockets of quilt-y happiness :).

Happy Creating!
