A little slice of life …

… want to join me for some ice tea and scones out on the front porch?

The finishing touches are done and I’ve got the summer porch I envisioned when I saw this picture …

Really it wasn’t much work at all. Our porch has a very similar layout and was already sporting two beautiful Adirondack chairs (made this winter by my husband). So all I had to do was add the finishing touches.

I was looking for an enamelware planter to use for my ‘4th of July’ floral centerpiece when I came home from a birthday party to find a new planter box under my kitchen window. Perfect … skip the enamelware and keep the table free for iced tea and cookies.

Next up was some cute pillows to dress up the chairs. Off I went to purchase some pillow forms from JoAnns. Yikes! Even with my 40% off coupon they were going to run $4-8 each. A bit steep for something I’m going to leave out in the elements and risk loosing to the occasional neighborhood prank. Next stop, Goodwill. I lucked out and found 4 pillowforms & a red/blue plaid pillow that would work perfectly. Total spent – $7. Two (1/2YDS) of outdoor fabric from JoAnns, a scrap of red/white polka dot from my stash and I had 4 pillows to dress up the chairs.

Lastly I added the star garland. The felt stars were a random purchase a few weeks ago (from JoAnn’s dollar section). I bought 3 packs which each had six stars. I simply zigzag stitched some twine to the top point of each star and … waalaaa … too cute garland. Seriously, it might be my favorite touch.

The flag is flying almost year round … and the two flag buntings were purchased last year.

I couldn’t be more pleased with how my ‘summer porch’ turned out and I’m so glad I stumbled upon the inspiration photo to get me going on it. A little less than $20 later and I had a whole new look that I’m going to enjoy long after 4th of July.

Happy Creating!
