Outside the sewing room …

I know, it doesn’t happen that often … me getting outside the sewing room. πŸ˜€

My son has even made a family joke out of it …
My husband will ask, “Where’s Mom” and my son replies, “Where do you think? Where she always is.” To which my husband replies, “I’m not surprised.”

Sometimes I’m standing right there, other times I’m right down the hall … but I’m so glad they get a chuckle out of it. And sadly it’s pretty true so I can’t really argue it either …

{Me, My “Old” Running Shoes & My Nike+ Pouch}

I try to leave my sewing room at least 3-4 times a week and get outside in the rain, snow, sun, cold, heat and RUN. It’s something I took up a little over 3 years ago and while I still have a love/hate relationship with it, I just can’t not do it. If I don’t run I feel guilty and know something is missing … when I see another runner, I feel inspired (and if I haven’t ran in awhile, guilty), when I do run I feel great, I feel alive and amazed that my body can run … I never regret it.

I do HAVE to listen to music though. This is very serious. One time my battery died all of 3 minutes into my run. Guess what? I turned around and went home. Serious.

So, I’ve seen a few other runners in this crafty/sewing/bloggy circle I find myself in and thought I’d share my play list. No judging, okay? Sometimes the BEST running songs have the WORST lyrics and do not have great musical appreciation.Oh and *if* the song has ‘explicit’ language, I always get the ‘clean’ version. Ya I know … it makes me feel a tiny bit better about my song choices ;).

Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (bad I know … does it make it better that I think of me and my hubby? We’re married, so it’s all good, right?)
Tao – Dynamite
Audioslave – Like a Stone
Lady Gaga – Poker Face
Cake – Short Skirt/Long Jacket
Train – Hey, Soul Sister
Beastie Boys – So What’cha Want
Kei$ha – Tik Tok (for real? Uhm yea, and lest you think I actually listen to this artist outside of running, I had to look her up since, duh, I didn’t realize anyone was using a symbol in their name since Prince tried that out in the 90’s … or was it the 00’s?).
Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
Katy Perry – California Gurls (which apparently is the same song as “Tik Tok” with different words … go figure, I like them both)

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Snow
Lady Gaga – Bad Romance

That’s just a sampling of the many songs on my running play list. I usually switch the order around so the top 10-12 (because really I don’t run more than 10 songs most days) are always changing.

Tell me, what’s on your play list that I should add to mine?

Now if that left you totally uninspired (I warned you … no judging) …

Let Andrea of Four Flights of Fancy inspire you. She has a wonderful series she’s doing for 2011, challenging herself, her family and others to “Buy Less, Give More.” A month ago she wrote a great post for it in regards to workout gear. Go check it out … I totally agree with everything she suggested … except that you might need a few more ‘cold winter’ items if you like to run outdoors like me … and it’s 20 degrees.

And you’ll want to stop by Four Flight of Fancy next Monday (Hello Valentine’s Day) for a review of my “Happy Little Camera Strap Slipcover” along with a **Lovely** KNITTY BITTIES GIVEAWAY !

Happy Creating or Happy Exercising!! I’m off to get my run on …

  1. haha! i love that you had to explain yourself. my philosophy is whatever gets you through a workout :O) i’ve got some doozies on my play list too but when i’m working out they pump me up and make me go a little harder so it’s worth it in the end. and by the way…you have an awesome playlist!

  2. I’m glad I read this today. I’m about to start a running routine-got my new running shoes yesterday in the mail actually :) so this post was very encouraging. thanks!

  3. you should def add “Creator” by Santogold. It’ll get you in the mood! It’s one of my favs!

  4. We’ve discussed playlists on Twitter. Maybe now that you posted yours I’ll get back to what I SHOULD have been doing! Ugh! Check up on me, will you? Guilt me into it, please πŸ˜‰

    Thanks Andrea <3

  5. love your playlist. i’m a top 40 girl all the way….i’m a sucker for a catchy hook and…glitter. :)

  6. My taste in music is embarrassingly similar. Although it’s my “cleaning the house” music, not running. Well, honestly, it’s my anytime music and I know it’s crap, but I love it! May I suggest adding Like a G6 (keep forgetting to google G6), and We No Speak Americano.

  7. running has been on my mind for a long time. i used to all the time and loved it but that was back in the old days….now three kids later it seems so far out of reach. but i live in a small community where running is like a disease…everyone, seriously everyone does it. it is hard not to be inspired when i see them.

  8. I too love to run and try to get out 3-5 times a week. Since being 9 months pregnant the running distance has shortened dramatically. I love sewing and my husband and son always know what I’ll be doing around the house when home too (sewing!)

Train – Hey, Soul Sister!! This has been one of my favorites on my play list.

I LOVE Lady Ga Ga. Pretty much any of her top 10 songs keep me going.( Bad Romance, Paparazzi, Poker Face, Just Dance)

I also really enjoy New York State of Mind by Alica Keys (just her and the piano). For some reason I love the slower pace of the song in the middle of my run.

    Beyonce – Sweet Dreams
Rihanna – Disturbia, Umbrella, Pon de Replay
Pat Benatar – Love is a battlefield (love this one!!).

There’s a few of my running list.

  9. I’m a fairly new runner, but I’ve had to take a break due to an extremely cold winter and the fact that I detest the treadmill. I have a varied playlist and I have to change it often so I don’t get bored. I too have songs that may offend, but I do have the clean version.

I Gotta Feeling -Black Eyed Peas
Carry Out – Timbaland & Justin Timberlake
Love the Way You Lie – Rhianna
    Lose Yourself – Eminem
Black Horse and Cherry Tree – KT Turnstall
Empire State of Mind – Jay Z
    Crazy in Love – Beyonce
Welcome to the Jungle – Guns n Roses
Sweet Child O Mine – GNR
Electric City – Black Eye Peas
    Stronger – Kanye West
Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
    Fighter – Christina Aguilera
Come to My Window – Melissa Etheridge
    Hey Soul Sister

  10. Looove this post! I CAN TOTALLY RELATE to the whole “I know these songs will give people an excuse to ridicule me but I love working out to them anyway”! I really love “Stronger” by Britney :)

  11. Julie T. says:

Ha! I love it… “no regrets…just love” makes sense in that scenario! How about some Bon Jovi! Maybe dated, but I think it helps my running time!

  12. It’s so nice to have fellow Katie, Kesha & Lady Gaga listeners. I have to admit that I turn them up when they’re on the radio (though I’m having to be a bit more careful of the little ears), Claire really loves “that firework song”!

I wish I could love running, but for me it’s mostly hate/hate :) I am developing a strange addiction to spinning though…

  13. Yae for running song list options!! I need to bookmark this post & remember to upload some of these suggestions. I still run to the list you sent me last year. Every.time.

  14. Yes! I loved this. I actually struggle w/guilt sometimes thinking I shouldn’t listen to some of the songs while that I do but you explained it so perfectly.
I’m going to have to use some of your songs. and now I can think to myself “Andrea listens to it” πŸ˜‰
Rhianna and Tik tok, are my guilty pleasures. I also listen to Bekha Shae and a few other Christian artists. Running is such good therapy.
