A {Berry Sweet} Tutorial: Part 2

How I made the centerpieces for the {Berry Sweet} Baby Shower.

I was inspired by the ‘inspiration shower‘ to do flower arrangements in mason jars. However, I knew I wanted several to be scattered around and I was trying to keep the budget in check ;).

So … I thought of growing wheat grass {which is so fun to do} in mason jars and then covering the ‘not so pretty’ dirt/roots with paper & fabric. To add interest and height, I used paper pinwheels and fresh strawberries on skewers {like the inspiration shower}.

Here’s what to do: Fill mason jars 2/3 with dirt. I follow this tutorial for growing the wheat grass. I started growing mine 8 full days before the shower.

Measure and cut bands of patterned paper to wrap around the jar and cover the dirt/roots. Cut a rectangle or circle paper doily in half and layer on top of the patterned paper. Add a smaller strip of fabric and tie in the back. Tie a paper strawberry embellishment around the center.

To make the paper strawberry embellishments that I used on both the centerpieces and name banner, I used this download from the Silhouette store. It is designed to be a card, but I un-grouped the file and took away the pieces I didn’t need. I used a kraft card stock for my base and then red and green card stock for the berry and stem.

For the pinwheels, we {hurray for a wonderful co-host and helping hands} spray painted dowels white and cut them at varying lengths. I cut the pinwheels out from various red and green double sided patterned papers using this download on the Silhouette. Necessary, again .. no. But super easy, handy and fun … yes!

The day of the shower we added a couple fresh strawberry {using the un-ripe/cast offs} for the finishing touch. Such a fun centerpiece with big impact on a small budget.
