Pinwheels in the Park Quilt Along:: Week 1

Welcome to week 1 of Kerri & I’s quilt along. We’re so excited that several of you are joining us. In fact, you might already be ahead of us ;).

This week’s {August 1-7} goal:: Cut Fabric/Blocks

To remind you, I picked 6 ‘aqua/blue’ prints for the pattern’s light fabrics & 6 ‘pink/red’ prints for the dark fabrics.

Following the sample quilt, you would use {2} different ‘light’ fabrics and {1} dark fabric for each pinwheel. I decided I wanted to use the same light fabric/dark fabric for each pinwheel. So I started by pairing one light and one dark together before I started cutting.

Then I ironed all my FQ’s so I’d get nice clean cuts {I’m sometimes lazy about this and almost always regret it!}.

Then I got to cutting … and distracted by the last episodes of Friday Night Lights {apparently} … I goofed and ended up cutting {2} different aqua prints into 1/4ths instead of just in 1/2. Oiy! So I had to pull in a few more prints from my stash to make things work. Not the end of the world :).

Here are all my cuts::

{I ended up needing {3} cuts of white Kona 7 7/8 x width of the fabric for the small white triangles.}

And here is my sweet little pile of scraps. There is quite a bit here and I think I know just what I’m going to do with them {so be patient and you’ll see them again soon}.

How is week 1 going for you if you’re playing along?

Show us your progress by joining the Flickr group, Pinwheels in the Park Quilt Along, and sharing your pictures.
