It’s almost December …

… so how about I start to spread a little Christmas spirit today …

I’m hoping to wrap up the majority of my ‘have-to’ sewing by the middle of next week and move onto ‘fun/handmade gift’ sewing {right up until Christmas I’m sure}.

Last year, I made my niece-in-law a tree skirt. I blogged about it here. It required a lot of material, but was not that complicated or time consuming. I’d say it’s an advanced beginner project.

This year, I want to make our family of three {and Daisy girl makes four} new stockings. I bought Thimble Blossom’s Merry pattern last year, but of course have waited until the last minute. We can use our others until I get these made. I love the aqua, gray & red color palette of the ones on the pattern cover, but all of my decor is a very traditional red with punches of limey green thrown in for a bit of a modern flair. We’ll see what happens. I’m pretty sure I’ll be using Amy Butler’s Full Moon Dot in Cherry & Lime for the backings.

Other holiday sewing on my list:: {2} Faux-chenille baby quilts, a quilt for my niece and a few other small projects. I’ll try to remember to share as I get them finished {fingers crossed}.

Speaking of fingers, my finger nails have been painted ‘Animal-istic’ by OPI for the last 5 days and have decided it is the perfect holiday red with a lovely sparkle. I bought several new colors on my recent trip to OR thanks to my bestie and her beauty license connection {hello $4.25 for OPI polish}.

Today I will be wrapping 24 holiday/Christmas/winter books as one of our many advent ‘calendars.’ None of these are new, just a collection I’ve gathered over the last few years. It’s such a fun way to end each day, reading a book together.

I’ll also be wrapping up the Lego Star Wars advent calendar and leaving it at my little’s breakfast spot tomorrow. He will be thrilled. We did this last year and it was super fun to see what each days pieces would create.

My little has his tree up and the outside has lights, but the inside is in need of some major deck the hall-ings … I might have to break some out on Thursday to surprise everyone when they get home from school/work.

What are you working on/thinking on to get ready for Christmas?

  1. wow, you sound so organized with all of this! the lego advent calendar sounds wonderful. my boys would have loved something like that when they were little!

  2. I really need a tree skirt, but I haven’t found one I like yet…maybe I should just make one! 😉

  3. Oooh! i love that polish color. I will have to go tell Santa =) I just got Jim the Lego City Advent calendar (inspired by Mr. E last year!). Hope you have fun decking the halls!

Thanks again for scoring me that sweet opi nail polish deal too, I love my new colors!

I didn’t get the girls an advent calendar until Dec 2, better late than never, right. I just wish each day came with 2 chocolate kisses so they could share with their chocolate loving mother.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
