Windmill Table Runner // For Jody

Let me tell you a secret …

If you like fabric {just a little bit}, it’s nice to make friends with someone who sells fabric. If you work it right, it will be a lovely relationship that results in fabric for your stash and handmade goodies for their home.

Just ask my friend Jody of the Fabric Shoppe. I’ve been buying fabric from Jody for years and love using her shop for my annual “Handmade Holiday” specials as she has a teriffic selection of fat quarters for my customers to choose from. Recently Jody and I have been doing a little trading of the most wonderful kind … she sends me a little fabric for my stash, plus a little more for a project and I sew her up a little something something.

Recently, she sent me some “Happy Go Lucky” by Bonnie & Camille for Moda with free reign to make her a table runner. Trying to step out of my typical patchwork or HST (half-square triangle) patterns, I decided to use the “windmill” block from The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt  book.

To highlight more of the prints, I did a reverse block making the windmill in a solid Kona white. I made 5 blocks, then added an inner and outer sashing of Kona white and added a folded strip of pattern fabric for a little accent.

I followed the shape of the windmill for the inner quilting and stuck with straight-line quilting on the sashing.  I finished it off with my cheater binding method using the backing fabric as the binding also.

I just love how it turned out. It was very hard to send off … but knowing the cheer it would bring to Jody and her sweet family made it much easier!
