Christmas {Crafty} + Garland DIY

Despite the short{er} time between Thanksgiving & Christmas, I was able to sneak in a surprising amount of  “Christmas Crafty” projects.

Is it too late to still be posting about Christmas?

Gosh I hope not. After all Christmastide {Twelve Days of Christmas} just ended. Let’s keep it going a little bit longer okay … because I have a week of Christmas related posts for you!

Way back in November we had a “Ladies Craft Night” at church and I led one of the crafts. I needed a craft that would be: inexpensive + quick + easy + big impact. FOR THE WIN. I didn’t really follow the tutorial, more like I looked at the picture I pinned and went for it. Some people are not visual learners {read “fly by the seat of your pants crafters”}, for you, there is a tutorial. I painted my star all white, then added gold paint to one edge + clear glitter to the other edge of each yardstick, hot glued them together, added white lights and …. wha-laaaa … isn’t happy in my entry way::

In fact, I love it so, it’s going to remain up until I just can’t justify it any more {so it may be up forever}!

Early in December I had a crafternoon with several of my favorite mamas. Have you ever done this? Just picked a day, picked a few crafts, gather supplies {and FOOD} and crafted the afternoon away? The best. Really, the crafts are third to talking and eating, but sometimes all three actually happen!

I picked to crafts from my “Ideas for Christmas” board:: Holly Jolly Felt Wreath / Bookpage Snowman

I ended up finishing both, but the wreath didn’t turn out quite as jolly as I wanted, so no picture of that. Here is my bookpage snowman sitting happily in what became the ‘snowman’ table::

Bookpage-Snowman {… it is photos like this that make me reconsider my pumpkin orange wall, but hey, this is real life and it doesn’t always match!!}

Two other projects shown here are tutorials I featured in December::

Spread Cheer Holiday Frame

The last craft came together just a few weeks before Christmas, but is quite possible, my favorite of all of them. Another take on my ‘go-to’ book page garlands {a’la Simple as That} I seem to create for each and every holiday and season. Seriously {Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween and now Christmas … looks like I’m just needing some turkeys for this year}!!  This one was inspired after I saw this mantle.

I’ve featured a quick DIY post before or you can visit my original inspiration here.

For this garland I used a reindeer and Santa + sleigh download for my Silhouette SD. I cut 8 “tiny” reindeer and 1 Santa + sleigh. I decided to stick with a rectangle {rather than a pennant shape} to mount my die cuts on as to not make the garland any busier. I inked the edges of the rectangles with a silver ink to create a little interest and then glued the die cuts. After I punched holes for the garland twine and strung the rectangles on, I added another bit of twine that went from reindeer to reindeer mimicking the reigns back to Santa. Finishing detail? A little red glitter for Rudolph’s nose of course!
